Stewardship: Money is a Test
Hello, I’m Ron Blue, and we are talking about stewardship. Last time, I talked about the fact that money is a tool, it’s a test, and it’s a testimony. It’s a tool to be used in my life, or to be used by me to accomplish certain things, in exchange for certain things of value.
But money is also a test. You know, if we look in the Old Testament, we see Solomon, who had unbelievable wealth. In many ways, God was testing Solomon, to see if he could handle that wealth. Paul said, “I’ve learned to be content in whatever circumstance that I’m in – whether I have a little bit or whether I have a lot.” (Philippians 4:12)
Money is a test. God uses it to test my heart. In Matthew 6 it says where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. So, I can test where my treasure is, that’s where my heart will be also. So if I want to be thinking eternally, then I have to pass my treasure off eternally.
Money is a test, and the challenge is, the more I have, I think, the bigger the test becomes, because the more difficult it becomes to trust God when I can in effect, buy whatever I want. The writer in the book of Proverbs said don’t give me too little, or I might steal, and don’t give me too much, or I won’t trust You. (Proverbs 30:8-9) I think that a pretty good saying, that’s a pretty good philosophy, I think that’s a pretty good belief system. Realizing that what I have is a test of my ability to trust God for what I’ve received, and what I will receive.
