Practicing the Presence of God

Hello, I’m Ron Blue. Recently, I’ve been reflecting many days now, on Brother Andrew when he said, “practice the presence of God.” If you’re like me, I’ve wondered, how do you practice the presence of God? I’ve been thinking about this for years and years and years. I had a friend who set his watch to beep every fifteen minutes to remind him to think about God. That’s one way to practice the presence of God.

But something came home to me recently. In Scripture, it says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in all things give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Now think about that. Rejoice always – that’s a choice that I can make. If I am constantly rejoicing, if I am praying without ceasing, if I am continually bringing what I am experiencing before the Lord - even as I’m walking through an airport. Recently I saw some people, and I would pray for the people as I walked by them. Practicing the presence of God. Praying for the little kids, praying for their parents.

And, in all things, giving thanks. So, anything that comes my way, “Thank you, Lord.” So, I think the practicality of practicing the presence of God is in rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, and giving thanks always for all things. In that way I begin to sense God’s presence. It is by faith and in obedience that I do that. It’s not a feeling; it is a practice, as Brother Andrew said. My encouragement to you is to practice the presence of God always.
